Vice President for Research

Affectiva, an MIT Media Lab spin-off, is the pioneer in Emotion AI, the next frontier of artificial intelligence. Affectiva’s mission is to bring emotional intelligence to the digital world with our emotion recognition technology that senses and analyzes facial expressions and emotion.

We are looking for a principal investigator to spearhead an advanced research team within Affectiva. The team will consist of researchers with backgrounds in machine learning, computer vision and affective computing and the mandate of this team will be to focus on experimentation with new techniques, technologies and solving hard challenges in the space of emotion sensing and emotion artificial intelligence (Emotion AI). Research topics will span a number of verticals where emotion recognition can be applied including areas such as health and wellness, education, social robotics and AI assistants. This position will report to the CEO.

• Build out independent research team focused on long-term innovation in Emotion AI.
• Seek out and manage collaborations with partners in industry and academia
• Create a vision for Affectivas long term (2+ year) research roadmap
• Manage a team of machine learning researchers and data scientists

• 5+ years experience leading a research team
• Strong track record of innovation: publications, patents and/or industry projects in the field of affective computing and adjacent fields.
