AMS can seamlessly shift an entire fleet of buildings from grid power to battery power providing real time support to the electric grid. The Director, Market Design & Engineering will be responsible for guiding AMS’s market deployment activities specifically focused on opening access to new and existing markets. This individual must have an understanding of grid infrastructure for distributed generation, such as battery storage and solar PV, and corresponding market and regulatory rules. This individual will officially work in the Policy and Markets group and report directly to the Vice President, Policy & Markets, however this role is interdisciplinary and the individual will interface heavily with the Analytics and Design and Business Development teams.
- Developing models and strategy for bidding various resources into the wholesale energy market.
- Determining optimal use of AMS portfolio of advanced energy storage systems.
- Ensuring that all AMS resources are meeting all necessary ISO requirements (i.e. ancillary service and reliability requirements).
- Strong understanding of existing wholesale market rules in key ISO/RTO markets (including, but not limited to California, New York, Texas and Hawaii).
- Experience defining new market services and products for applications of advanced demand response and distributed energy storage – both at the distribution and transmission level.
- Experience registering, scheduling and bidding demand response and/or energy storage products into wholesale markets.
- Ability to identify and advocate for regulatory changes that advance the deployment of demand response, energy storage and other distributed energy resources.
- Providing technical guidance to AMS business development team.
- Advanced engineering degree
- Experience deploying resources in wholesale energy markets
- Experience working with regulatory bodies and writing technical comments
- 8 + years of experience
- Knowledge of low and medium voltage power systems and electronic principals
- Basic understanding of Battery Storage operation
- Experience with SCADA, Modbus, DNP3
- Experience with utility metering and utility tariffs
