About Adler Planetarium

ADLER DIVERSITY STATEMENT | LEADERSHIP, STAFF, VOLUNTEERS & PROGRAMMING To effectively educate and serve our community and constituents, the Adler Planetarium strives to achieve diversity among its Trustee leadership, staff, volunteers, and programming.

Summary

Looking for a job that's "out of this world?" One where you can "reach for the stars?" Or where you can make endless space puns without fear of ridicule?

Did you know there’s a planet in our galaxy where it rains glass? Or that light bounces around inside the Sun for 175,000 years before shooting off into space? If you think that’s freaking awesome, this might be the place for you!

The Adler Planetarium is seeking a manager of advertising and promotional partnerships to join a dynamic team on Chicago's Museum Campus.

Responsibilities

This position oversees the planning, execution and evaluation of the Adler’s advertising, promotions and strategic partnerships and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all associated activities.

In collaboration with the director of marketing, you will create strategic marketing initiatives to increase museum attendance and raise the Adler’s profile with new audiences.

In this position, you will:

  • Work with the director of marketing to set a strategic vision and carry out integrated marketing plans across channels to support the museum’s goals
  • Research, negotiate, execute and steward (optimization/reporting) all advertising for the museum to get in the best value, highest impact, and furthest reach
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with media reps
  • Identify and recommend cost-effective targeted advertising vehicles
  • Negotiate favorable non-profit rates, co-op promotions, and partnerships to drive supplemental revenue
  • Manage advertising budget
  • Secure media sponsorship's and in-kind marketing opportunities
  • Work with internal design team or external partners to produce ads
  • Support other efforts, as assigned by the director of marketing
Ideal Candidate

You are well versed in digital, traditional, and programmatic media, but you’re always looking for the next big thing. Where are people going? How do they communicate there? What do they care about?

You are meticulous and creative. You are a tenacious negotiator and you know how to make a dollar stretch. You are flexible—happy to work on your own or as a member of a team of tremendously talented people. You are organized. You do not fear shifting and sometimes overlapping deadlines.

You are also a nice person. We are nice here. We support each other.

You have:

  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, communications or a related field
  • A minimum of two to three years of experience in advertising, media planning, and buying, either in an agency or in a client-side role
  • Business-to-consumer advertising experience (preferred)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
