Full Stack Engineer

About.com was founded in 1997 by Scott Kurnit as the Mining Company. The original goal of the company was to have a site that covered 1,800 topic areas, but after five years of operation the number was reduced to 700.

In 1999, during the internet bubble, the company changed its name to About.com.

Primedia bought the company in 2000 for $690 million.

As the full stack engineer, in our SEO & Growth Team, you will help build the systems that will help us scale how we optimize and improve our site for maximum impact on our users and growth.

You’ll be working closely with the data scientists and editorial teams building APIs, automated systems, web crawlers, distributed data stores, and tools for closing the build-measure-learn loop for key business processes. The work you do will have a direct impact on improving the quality and traffic of About.com.

• Build and maintain web applications and internal tools that help measure and maximize our content improvement and SEO efforts across product, editorial, and marketing
• Routinely work with very large datasets to build models for various applications
• Build pipelines for data flow between/across software systems
• Leverage NLP, text processing, and machine learning tools
• Work as part of highly-dynamic cross-functional agile teams in a variety of lightweight processes to drive and deliver on new product objectives

• 4+ years experience with a scripting language (Python preferred)
• Strong coding skills and web application development experience
• Experience with Django, Flask, or similar frameworks
• Confidence working with distributed stores such as Hadoop and MongoDB a plus
