Section Manager Metrology

Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives: Technical management of metrology engineering. Manage budget, performance excellence and staff development. Develop effective partnerships with key customers globally; able to gain cooperation and negotiate to consensus. Provide leadership and direction for significant initiatives such as ISO accreditation, validation and globalization. Establish and maintain metrology policies, procedures, and methods. Provide technical training and consulting to key customers/divisions worldwide. Represent AbbVie on technical committees for calibration requirements.

* The Section Manager position within Metrology is responsible for the implementation of technical projects, for providing direction to the project team, and management of the team members. The manager will provide technical expertise for development of new calibration methods, manage time lines, manage resources, and will provide technical support to all sites as necessary. * The Section Manager establishes goals that are consistent with the department, manufacturing and Research customer requirements, implements plans, assigns duties and responsibilities and controls subordinates performance to meet the goals and commitments. * The Section Manager position leads the team that handles complex technical projects. These projects can impact a significant portion of the business; they can be focused on one plant or shared among multiple plants. The team provides a high level of technical expertise required for support of various regulatory organizations and manufacturing needs and strives for a global approach in implementation of projects and programs to ensure consistency. * The Section Manager provides technical direction for a given Metrology project and is responsible for the execution of the project. In this role, the Section Manager will work with different functional groups to ensure timely and effective completion of project goals. * The Section Manager position works directly with multiple groups towards the development of cost effective, robust and compliant processes and ensuring that customer operations and customer support remain uninterrupted. * The Section Manager position in the Metrology organization is responsible for management of a technical team of up to 8 engineers and technicians. The position requires interaction with engineering and maintenance personnel from various Divisions and sites and at times requires travel in order to support the projects.

**Education:** * BS in Metrology, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline OR no degree and related work experience. **Background:** * Technical experience 10 years with an understanding of current regulations and impact on the corporation/division; experience with interfacing with regulating agencies and the ability to understand the business and the impact metrology/calibration has on the corporation. * Strong communication skills to present and educate at various levels of corporate and division personnel. Able to lead numerous significant projects simultaneously, drive for results and balance workloads/assignments for success. Effective customer service and planning/organizational skills. * Must have 3 years laboratory instrument qualification experience. Prior regulatory audit experience strongly preferred.
