Summary
As the Engineering Manager for the Personalization team you drive one of zulily’s most visible functions - the team responsible for customizing the shopping experience, individually tailored for each of zulily’s millions of customers. The ideal candidate is an experienced and strong software engineering manager that has experience understanding customer behaviors and using that understanding to drive business performance. You lead a team responsible for the development and operation of real-time recommendation services used in all aspects of the zulily shopping experience, from email and mobile notifications to the content that powers our iOS and Android shopping apps. Your services determine which content our customers see, which in turns makes a significant impact on customer engagement and business performance.
Responsibilities
You will work with data science, product management, and marketing to build and execute a diverse product roadmap consisting of new services, improvements to existing services, and game-changing infrastructure investments. You are responsible for identifying new products and improvements, rapidly testing them for feasibility, and shipping winning concepts to production. You manage the full engineering lifecycle for the Personalization team including planning, development, and operations. The team has a thirst for being early adopters of new technologies where it makes sense for our customers, and we invest heavily in machine learning to drive our real-time recommenders. Today, the team uses Go, Java, Spark, Docker, and Kubernetes running in Google Cloud.
Ideal Candidate
* A demonstrable passion for service operations and quality * A demonstrable passion for building great teams through great hires, developing engineers' technical skills and teamwork capabilities, and team culture * 2+ years professional experience managing and growing a team of developers * 7+ years professional experience in software engineering with a preference for high-trafficked web services and machine learning * 2+ years professional experience using machine learning techniques on customer behavior data * 2+ years professional experience in e-commerce preferred * A strong command of agile methodologies * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Proven attention to detail and excellent organizational skills * Excellent problem solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills * Ability to multitask, deal with ambiguity, prioritize conflicting requirements, and meet business performance goals * Skilled in building teams and processes around experimentation, including designing, executing, and reading experiments * Demonstrated initiative and strong ownership of projects **Education** Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent experience, Master’s Degree preferred
