Summary
We are seeking a talented Firmware Development Manager to lead Zonar’s firmware development team as we expand our embedded platform support and continue developing features that add value to Zonar’s telematics services. As the Firmware Development Manager will use your skills and experience to help define the future architecture for Zonar’s embedded applications and to grow, motivate, and lead the team through implementation. This role reports directly to the Senior Director of Embedded Engineering and is great opportunity for problem solvers who are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and enjoy delivering results.
Responsibilities
* Hire, train, supervise, motivate, and develop your engineering staff * Extend support for Zonar applications to new embedded platforms, and implement new features for existing platforms * Assure engineering staff follow development best practices, methodologies, and processes in order to accelerate feature delivery * Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight of direct reports, actively working to promote and recognize performance * Analyze scope, requirements, and risks for new feature development, and develop firmware architecture that balances immediate product deliverables with future scalability needs * Coordinate with firmware QA team to develop and implement test plans efficiently
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field; and 8 years of experience in embedded development with escalating responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience * Experience writing C code for embedded devices * Experience with other programming languages such as C++, Java, and Python * Experience with operating systems such as embedded Linux or some form of RTOS * Experience with best practices for software development, including Agile methodologies and the use of tools for issue tracking, documentation, static code analysis, and unit testing * Leadership ability as demonstrated by experience as a development manager, project manager, scrum master, software architect, or other leadership role * Excellent communication skills including phone and text communication with remote employees * Ability to analyze and understand an existing codebase and use that knowledge to troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve issues
