- Apply scientific and engineering principles for research programs involving product development, processing, manufacturing technology, quality control, and packaging.
- Major responsibilities are managing projects and maintaining constant communication with cross functional groups to drive projects from concept through commercialization.
- Conduct basic research identifying novel delivery forms for confections, dietary supplements, and pharmaceutical active ingredients.
- Conceptualize and develop new product prototype at bench.
- Manage project timing, milestones and resources between Operations, QA, Purchasing, and Marketing (project management). Responsible for creating and adhering to Innovation portion of commercialization time lines and communications between the project team and the organization.
- Conduct plant trials and product start-ups, managing timing and resources between Operations, QA, Purchasing, and Marketing.
- Responsible for documentation to ensure the consistent manufacture of new products; including batch records, production instructions, validation and stability protocols. Works with Quality Assurance to ensure all product documentation is written stored, and approved for commercial manufacture; including material specifications, material CoA's, product specifications, cleaning requirements, method validations, and packaging specifications.
- Prepare technical reports for submission to management and diligently document all laboratory and experimental activities within a lab notebook or project binder.
- Stay current on ingredients and technologies in areas of flavor, color, texture and nutrition.
- Develop necessary production documentation to ensure the consistent manufacture of new products; includes batch records, production instructions, and validation and stability protocols.
- Work with Quality Assurance to ensure all product documentation is written, stored, and approved for commercial manufacture; includes material specifications, material CoA's, product specifications, cleaning requirements, method validations, and packaging specifications.
- Develop new and improved methods and systems for food processing, production, quality control, packaging and distribution.
- Study methods to improve quality of foods such as flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, convenience, or physical, chemical, and microbiological composition of foods.
- Confer with process engineers, flavor experts, and packaging and marketing specialists to resolve problems and create new ideas.
- Independently manage tasks against project time lines while providing cross-functional updates.
- Responsible for creating and adhering to the Innovation portion of commercialization time lines as well as occasionally directing other cross-functional activities.
