Summary
Xator is seeking a professional Power Systems Design Engineer with 5+ years’ experience in the design, schematic preparation, integration, and test of power systems.
Responsibilities
* Consult with the client, Project Manager, and CADD Technician to design power filtration, isolation, and backup systems for data centers and operations rooms in environments where grid power is unreliable or non-existent * Utilize controlled documentation and knowledge of government standards and application guides, International Building Codes, and National Electrical Codes to complete site surveys at international locations * Provide project status/updates to the respective Project Manager, Engineering Manager and/or client * Develop specialized designs to include site and floor plans, riser diagrams, Bill of Materials, power/signal runs, schedules and details, and device schematics * Determine the feasibility of utilizing standardized equipment and develop specifications with the capability of providing alternate solutions to unique engineering problems * Design and study blueprints, schematics, manuals, wiring diagrams and other specifications to determine design and installation procedures * Identify the strengths and weaknesses of multiple systems for the design; plan or modify designs to minimize waste of materials; design easy access for future maintenance and design with cost mitigation
Ideal Candidate
**The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:** * Electrical engineering degree from ABET accredited institution. Prior military training or relevant experience may be substituted for education. Other engineering disciplines will be considered based on the candidate’s power systems knowledge * Excellent oral and written communication skills * The ability to work well under pressure with strict guidelines * Proficient in MS Office with an understanding of AutoCAD * Ability to read blueprints and system wiring diagrams * Ability to convey technical viewpoints to non-technical personnel * Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred **Must Possess Knowledge of the following** * Uninterruptable power supply (UPS) technologies * Types: Standby, online, interactive * Solid state, double conversion * Batteries (SLAs and other available technologies) * Battery maintenance * Battery chargers * Battery testers * Voltage regulators * Transformers * Galvanic isolation, separately derived systems * Power systems (low voltage * Single-phase * Three-phase * Worldwide voltages and frequencies * Floating and grounded neutrals * Delta and wye configurations * Power factor **Power quality** * Power failures * Power sags * Power surges (spike) * Under-voltages (brownout) * Over-voltages * Electrical line noise * Frequency variations * Switching transients * Harmonic distortion * Surge protective devices * Power filters for radio frequency shielded enclosures and red data systems * Red-black power separation * Power monitoring * Power supplies (AC/DC, DC/DC, AC/AC, linear, switching) * Electrical grounding * Lightning protection * Harmonics and transients * NEC familiarity * Test equipment * AC and DC power supplies * Multi-meter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer * Power meters, electronic load * Motor generator sets, flywheel UPS * Electrical panels, circuit breakers * Transfer switches * 5+ years’ experience in power engineering * Basic understanding of networking
