Summary
The associate will spend time with all integrated planning disciplines along the floor processes and the Columbus Steel Support functions. During this training the person will develop an understanding of procurement activities related to assigned purchases; learn to manage short range production planning and advises to purchase materials necessary to support production plan; learn to schedule proper material to the operations units in accordance with inventory levels and customer requirements and schedules the material and work orders so that the units can optimize machine capabilities and performance to achieve the highest productivity, finest quality and on-time delivery; and learn set-up/create work orders to be processed on the plant equipment to meet the specifications and needs of the customer, to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of machine capability and capacity to maximize quality production. The trainee will spend time on the production floor learning the material flow and the importance of having accurate information from the Integrated Planning Desk. The trainee will spend time with the Steel Support group (Steel HQ) in Columbus learning the various responsibilities and support functions they provide to the divisions. (Inside Sales, Purchasing, Item Creation, Transportation, Accounting, Trading Desk and Continuous Improvement)
Responsibilities
**Key Position Results** (Examples: Accurate financial reporting, Timely issue resolution, etc.) * Complete position specific check-off sheets for all disciplines of the Supply Chain Desk * Basic understanding of material flow on the production floor (review with SCM/ Production-Scheduling manager * Basic knowledge of terms used on the production floor and IP desk (review with SCM/ Production-Scheduling manager) * Timely and accurate maintenance of system data * Timely completion of assigned projects * Bi-monthly meeting/review with SCM * Attend one of the bi-monthly SCM meetings * Attend a training session on supply chain workstreams from the CoE **Key Duties & Responsibilities** * Work with the four main disciplines of the IP Desks: planner, buyer, scheduler & set-up. Develop an understanding of each discipline * Work with and gain an understanding of the process flow of material and machine capabilities by working with superintendents, process tech’s and production leads. * Work with the Steel Support group and develop an understanding of how they are an integral part of the process.
Ideal Candidate
**Critical Skills, Knowledge and Abilities** * Working knowledge of assigned items. * Good communication skills (both written and verbal). Professional phone etiquette is a must. * Self motivated and possesses the ability to complete tasks on-time and with little supervision. * General negotiation skills * Intermediate analytical and mathematical skills * Working knowledge and experience of Microsoft Excel, Word and ERP purchasing systems. * Material requirements planning (MRP) system proficiency * Working knowledge of purchasing, planning, scheduling and set-up terminology and practices * Problem solving skills * Teamwork skills **Education / Training Required** * Bachelor Degree in Business, supply chain, logistics, or quantitative fields or equivalent work experience
