Summary
The Quality Engineer will provide technical direction in problem solving while developing a strong understanding of appliance operations. In this position, you will take a lead role in developing and improving the quality of our products, using OPEX and problem solving tools to determine root cause and corrective actions. Lead activities that analyze and evaluate product and processes to assure that the product is in conformance with engineering specifications, leading to improvements in the field and the division.
Responsibilities
* Plan, design, and deploy quality assurance with manufacturing operations during preproduction, startup and ongoing manufacturing. Plan and participate in pilot production runs; * Interface with design and manufacturing operations for quality, reliability, and process issues; * Work with manufacturing operations to create quality plans, perform audits, implement corrective actions, and generate quality metrics; * Identify quality improvement opportunities in manufacturing operations and drive problem solving with appropriate use of cross-functional teams; * Support regular business reviews of internal and external quality metrics and improvement activities; * Work with assigned areas to continually improve quality systems including the use of process-based auditing. Document nonconformance issues and assure implementation of corrective action.
Ideal Candidate
* B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or other related discipline and 3+ years of engineering experience or A.A.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or other related discipline and 5+ years of engineering experience. * Experience with formal quality system assessments and part qualification; * Statistical background required with hands on experience in QA/QC analysis methods; * First hand knowledge of C2C/APQP, FPA/PPAP, FMEA, MSE/MSA, process control/SPC and control plans; * Understanding of quality systems – WQMS, ISO/TS 16949 and ISO9100 experience desired; * Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerating (GD&T) and Gauge design, strongly preferred; * Solid understanding and experience with 8D and corrective actions. Understanding of 1x1 problem-solving also beneficial. * Metrology/Measurement experience and mechanical aptitude, beneficial for this role; * Understanding of Six Sigma; ideal candidate will be a certified Six Sigma Black Belt; * Knowledge of TPS/Lean and the ability to lead improvement activities; * Knowledge of manufacturing processes with ability to support high speed assembly operations; * Excellent interpersonal skills required; role will be responsible for managing technician level resources across a three shift operation. * Proven ability to create and lead cross functional teams to resolve issues and deliver results; * Dynamic self starter with ability to work independently and with cross functional teams required; * In depth computer skills required; * Ability to travel domestically and internationally to other Whirlpool and Supplier operations.
