Summary
This position is located at our global headquarters in Saint Joseph and Benton Harbor, Michigan - a breathtaking vacation community on 40 miles of Lake Michigan beachfront, where swimming, sailing, kayaking, waterskiing, boating, and beach volleyball are abundant. Join us in making the most of moments that matter. Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Legal Counsel position on our Corporate Center Legal team. The successful candidate will have prior M&A transactions experience and the flexibility to broaden his or her expertise in other substantive areas.
Responsibilities
* Partner with and provide legal support to the Corporate Strategy and Business Development function in connection with assessment of M&A opportunities and competitive intelligence initiatives. * Assist in the development of business and deal strategy and advise management (business and legal) regarding risks, requirements and status/progress in connection with transactions. * Develop and administer training to the Corporate Strategy and Business Development function, as well as extended deal/diligence/integration teams in the areas of confidentiality, antitrust, corporate governance, contracts, and other relevant areas. * Provide legal support for other corporate functions, such as Whirlpool's Finance, Treasury, Risk Management, Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, and Benefits groups in connection with corporate transactions and other matters.

Candidates must be self-motivated and exhibit a passion for understanding Whirlpool’s business and contributing in a meaningful way to its strategy and long term strategy goals. * In addition to possessing the requisite legal and technical skills, the successful candidate must approach this role from a business perspective and demonstrate a high degree of business savvy and strategic/conceptual thinking capabilities. * This is a position on a lean team providing legal support to a range of corporate functions. * The successful candidate must have M&A experience and the flexibility to broaden his or her skill set in other substantive legal areas. **Key Qualifications:** * JD from an accredited law school. * Admission to the Michigan Bar or eligibility for admission. * At least three (3) years of M&A transactions experience, with specific experience in public and private transactions preferred. * Ability to prioritize and manage a large volume of concurrent projects. * Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate (both orally and in writing) and interact effectively at all levels of an organization; ability to identify critical issues and convey them in a manner that is useful to the client. * Demonstrated ability to achieve results. * Leadership skills; sound character; excellent judgment. * Willingness to “roll up your sleeves;” a team player who can build rapport with a diverse range of business and legal partners. * Self-starter; quick study; business orientation. * Superior intellect, with the ability to think critically and make clear and well-reasoned decisions; ability to see and handle more than the legal issues of a project; strong, pragmatic business acumen with the ability to recognize the business consequences of legal advice; a strategic and innovative thinker who can bring value to his or her clients and find creative solutions to complex legal problems.
