Summary
Under minimal supervision, the Database Administrator 3 analyzes, designs, and constructs database environments. The Database Administrator 3 partners with the Application Developers, Architecture, Infrastructure and Database Designers to administer, maintain, and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the availability, performance, security and integrity of the databases they support while meeting the needs of the business. The Database Administrator 3 serves as a peer mentor to less experienced team members.
Responsibilities
* Under minimal supervision, installs and configures DB2 zOS for the Mainframe. * Participates in analysis and design of new applications and enhancements, designing with assistance of the physical implementation of logical database requirements, and including de-normalization when required. * Implements database design enhancements and structure changes. * Writes complex structured query language (SQL). * Participates in disaster recovery tests. * Implements database back-up and recovery plans, and performs database recoveries at the direction of other areas of the IT department. * Implements and monitors database reorganization schedules. * Schedules, plans and organizes work day based on assignments provided by team lead or leader. * Provides project oversight on assignments of less experienced database administrators. * Provides coaching and mentoring to less experienced database team members. * Provides subject matter experience to other areas of the organization. * Creates database documentation including, but not limited to, database standards, database design, disaster recovery plans, etc. * Coordinates changes with other areas of the IT department as appropriate. * Monitors and reviews operating statistics for conformance to performance standards and overall system performance goals. Performs tuning as needed. * Provides status and technical transparency through effective communication both written and oral to Technical Leads and Leaders. * Provides environment and strategic input during planning with Leader. * Creates, maintains, and manages Asset Management Plans. * Provides after hour and weekend on-call support. * Provides technical assistance and troubleshooting support to other staff members. * Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations.
Ideal Candidate
* 7 or more years of experience as a Mainframe DB2 zOS DBA or equivalent with system management experience. * Demonstrated expertise of the mainframe architecture supported. * Demonstrated expertise in current releases of DB2 zOS and technology and knowledge of mainframe DB2 administration and utility tools such as BMC Mainview, ACF2, TSO/ISPF, BMC DB2 Administration and Utility products, SMS, and VTS. * Demonstrated expertise of Database Design and Database Modeling. * Proven ability to manage/plan multiple tasks on an extended basis and within deliverable time frames. * Proven ability to perform problem solving activities. * Demonstrated experience writing complex SQL statements. * Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or commensurate experience. * Proven ability to work in a team environment and independently. * Demonstrated customer service skills. * Demonstrated excellent oral and written skills. * Ability to provide after hour and weekend on-call support. * Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.
