Summary
Yard Hostler / Operator at our transfer station located in Tacoma, WA. In this position, you will be moving Class A vehicles around the yard, will operate a skid steer and excavator, and will assist in any labor duties that may need to get done on-site. This is a full-time day shift Mon-Fri position with growth potential. Some Saturday or holiday work may be required.
Responsibilities
- Operates a variety of heavy equipment to push, cover and pack refuse and solid waste. Equipment includes, but is not limited too, loaders, excavators, forklift and trucks. - Performs routine inspection on equipment and machinery as required. - Moving 53ft trailers around grounds, scaling out legal loads, tarping and securing them for transit. - Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. - Perform other such duties and functions as may be necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position
Ideal Candidate
**Requirements:** - Minimum 1 year experience as a hostler - Minimum 1 year experience operating both skid steers and excavators (or other comparable heavy equipment) - Class A CDL is highly preferred - High School Diploma or equivalent - Ability to work OT when needed - Has a willingness to advance - Must be open to do other labor intensive duties when needed. **Physical/Mental Demands:** Job incumbents must be able to: - Climb in and out of equipment cabs constantly throughout the shift. Must be able to step into vehicles at a height of approximately 2 to 3 feet. - Exert force and lifts up to 50 lbs frequently; 50 100 lbs occasionally - Constantly handle, grip, and grasp controls, and push buttons to operator equipment controls; coordinate the movement of more than one limb simultaneously to operator the clutch and accelerator on a piece of equipment. - Work in small, cramped spaces such as an equipment cab. - Regularly perform extensive physical activity and strenuous physical work. - Frequently walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb stairs and ladders. - Work safely without presenting a threat to self or others. - Communicate effectively and cooperate with others. - Perform basic daily clerical duties such vehicle inspection reports and scale tickets **Work Environment:** Job incumbents must be able to: - Constantly work outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions, around machinery and around co-workers. - Frequent exposure to dust, fumes, smoke, gases odors and excessive noises. - Occasional exposure to chemicals, solvents, grease or oil and slippery or uneven surfaces. - Rarely works alone or indoors
