Summary

The Masters Swim Coach/Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for members in Village Masters and Adult Swimming Programs.

Responsibilities
  • Attract and Retain members by consistently providing excellent customer service
  • Employee leads by example, consistently conveying a positive attitude, passion and pride in their work
  • Coaches/Instructs Masters and Adult Swimming by having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
  • Works with Programs Director to develop and clinics and lessons
  • Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
  • Encourages and promotes member involvement.
  • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.
  • Be at swimming area 15 minutes or more (as needed) before instruction periods to have tools, supplies and area ready for class.
  • Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.). Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Follows all Village policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Responsible for keeping daily inventory of all swim supplies and equipment condition and need for supplies. Reports damaged equipment.
  • Creates buy-in to the program and the Village by building a community
  • Maintains pool area in a clean and orderly condition and participates in other duties assigned by your supervisor.
  • Will lead workouts normally in the early mornings, evenings and some weekends.
Ideal Candidate

Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Must have experience writing and coaching a masters swim program. Clear understanding of technical aspects of swimming: stroke technique; diving; turns; etc.
  • Obtain CPR certification within 30 days of hire through Company training
  • Motivated and energetic demeanor
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Will need to be comfortable working with both high level swimmers, triathletes, and with non-competitive swimmers new to a master’s workout program.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check

Knowledge/Skills Preferred:

  • Life Guard and/or WSI certification preferred
  • US Masters, USA Swimming Coach or USA Triathlon Coach Certification.

Ada Requirements:

Physical Activity This position requires frequent standing, walking, and running, grasping, bending and kneeling in regards to swim instruction and ability to climb pool ladders. Sitting for some periods of time. Substantial repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Involved in activities where one must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Requires the ability to receive detailed information through written and oral communication.

Physical Requirement Walking and standing are required daily. Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Visual Requirement This position requires close visual acuity to perform activities such as: watching members in pool setting and coaching lessons

Working Conditions Work is performed in an athletic club environment. The noise level is usually moderate to high and in hot weather
