Summary

This position will independently gather and analyze information for developing and modifying information processing systems in accordance with USPS requirements. This individual will support e-mail and Internet mail operations. This includes: programming, engineering, integrating, testing, piloting, and final resolution for all products that relate to messaging, and associated products, as well as directory services. This individual will be expected to work independently or semi-independently with a minimum of guidance or direction.

Responsibilities
  • Performs systems analysis and design, programming, installation, documentation, maintenance and optimization of operating system software for Windows NT, UNIX, MVS/XA, MVS/ESA, Windows 200, Windows '95, and Novell Netware in a TCP/IP networking environment interfacing with Lotus ccMail.
  • Applies standard software development methodologies to successfully complete projects.
  • Gains a high level of competence in the USPS operating environment.
  • Acquires a thorough knowledge of the assigned systems and understands the USPS business processes that support it.
  • Codes and tests software changes in accordance with standard practices.
  • Provides user support and problem resolution.
  • Maintains required documentation.
  • Provides on-call support as required to support the production systems.
  • Seeks out and recognizes flaws, weaknesses and errors in software, both from a logic and customer requirements standpoint.
  • Generates thorough test plans matching requirements and design specifications to actual execution of code, and reality/sanity checking methods for data accuracy and completeness.
  • Documents and communicates the steps that will be followed in the execution of generic or specific software project.
  • Aggressively leads efforts to design, build, test, and implement system changes.
  • Communicates project status, deliverables, priorities, roadblocks, and contingencies.
  • Effectively and proactively works with customers/end users of application(s) to ensure needs are being met/managed in a positive manner.
Ideal Candidate

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires 5 to 7 years of related programming experience to include competency in the development environment as well as knowledge and application of the Systems Development Lifecycle. Project management experiences a plus. MCSE certification a plus.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or associated discipline and a minimum of 3 years of applicable experience.
