The Professional Development Specialist designs, implements, and evaluates clinical and non-clinical orientation programs and continuous learning programs for all classifications of staff in partnership with the department leadership teams.
- Partners with human resources, clinical educators/preceptors, and department leaders to develop consistent organization-wide standards for education and professional development.
- Develops, implements, and oversees an educational plan that will evaluate achievement of learning goals and functions in acknowledgement of adult learning principles.
- Enhances the new hire onboarding experience by assisting with new hire training and establishing best practices/standards to assist leaders in developing department-specific orientation programs.
- Remains up-to-date on regulatory and compliance mandates in order to regularly evaluate whether the organization is compliant with educational requirements. Manages a system to make sure all training is properly tracked and documented.
- Manages the e-learning/LMS system for the organization, and provides education to managers and educators on the system to allow them to independently manage compliance or development of content.
- Promotes the clinical simulation program by assisting in content development and running simulation training exercises.
- Demonstrates exceptional written and verbal communication skills, instructional design/training skills, and an understanding of adult learning theory.
- Demonstrates a high level of clinical/nursing competency and expertise.
- Promotes educational offerings through the development of effective communication tools.
- Nursing degree required. Master's degree in nursing preferred.
- Experience in a Professional Development/educational role strongly preferred.
- Must demonstrate current acute care nursing competency.
- Strong understanding of regulatory/compliance/Joint Commission standards required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Colorado RN license. BLS required.
- Must demonstrates exceptional written and verbal communication skills, instructional design/training skills, and an understanding of adult learning theory.
- Must be comfortable facilitating training or presenting information in front of a group.
- Hands-on experience managing a hospital's online learning system strongly preferred.
