Fund Accountant

USAA Real Estate Company was founded in 1982 as the real estate investment arm of USAA. With approximately $15 billion in assets under management, the company provides co-investment asset management services to U.S. pension funds, as well as to foreign and domestic institutional investors.

The Fund Accountant is responsible for general accounting functions relating to a real estate portfolio consisting funds, separate accounts and joint ventures which invest in office, multi-family, industrial, retail and hotel properties. Responsible for processing, reviewing, analyzing, and recording fund/venture related operating data into financial system in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, as well as internal accounting policies. Responsible for preparing historic cost and/or fair value basis financial statements including notes. Avoid describing detailed procedures.)*** - Verify, review and analyze entity level general ledgers on cash, accrual and fair value basis ensuring accuracy and adherence to established accounting policies and procedures. Responsible for general and advanced accounting functions and for meeting the accounting department calendar deadlines. - Prepare and analyze quarterly/annual financial statements including supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP (fair value and/or historic cost basis). Demonstrate a solid understanding and ownership of the financial statement process. - Interact with internal and external customers, other accounting team members, asset managers, property managers and all necessary departments to ensure prompt resolution of issues and achieve maximum efficiency of operations. Develop a solid understanding of the accounting for the assigned portfolio to be viewed as a valuable resource for others working with the portfolio. - Prepare accurate work papers and ensure the fulfillment of financial reporting requirements for external and internal audits and tax accountants. - Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the Yardi system. Ensure that all entity information is up to date and correct in the Yardi system. - Assists in forecasting of monthly financial results and cash projections based on budgets and known trends. Reviews budget to actual results and advises management of trends. - Keeps abreast of new industry developments, regulatory changes, management requirements, accounting system updates, procedures, etc. - Reviews work prepared by accounting associates. Provides guidance on appropriate accounting processes to complete the task at hand. - Significantly contributes to improvements to processes related to above duties and responsibilities. - Assists with special projects and other related duties as may be assigned.

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field - 5+ yrs. Accounting experience w/ solid fundamental accounting skills - 3+ yrs. Real Estate Industry accounting experience - Must be able to travel regularly to San Antonio initially for some training with periodic travel, as needed, thereafter - CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred - Strong Excel skills; Yardi familiarity a plus - Real Estate Fund accounting experience strongly preferred
