Summary
Operate a Class A or B Commercial Motor Vehicle for the purpose of transporting hazardous waste and/or material from origin to final destination. Responsible to ensure driving and operation of equipment is conducted in a safe and compliant manner.
Responsibilities
* Comply with all US Ecology Management System policies and procedures. * Travel (up to 100%, some weeks) to multiple locations, performing LTL pick-ups. * Utilize MIM (mobile information manager) unit to classify and manifest waste material being removed * Demonstrate a high level of customer service * Maintain and manage vehicle, assigned route, and customer schedules, while maintaining driving logs, pre M trip/post M trip inspections and shipping papers according to DOT, RCRA, DEA and EPA regulations. * Ability to properly segregate numerous waste streams while guaranteeing compliance for the following task: labeling, placarding, loading, unloading, and 10 day compliance according to waste in compliance with RCRA, DEA, EPA and DOT regulations * Good communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with customers * Performs other related duties as assigned. These duties include: Emergency and spill response, function as technician on field service projects, participate in training “new” environmental technician drivers according to Standard Operation Procedures. These are duties are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class of work
Ideal Candidate
**Education and Experience** * High school diploma or equivalent * Clean driving record with valid CDL A or B (Hazmat endorsement or be able to obtain endorsement) * One to two years previous experience (preferably in the environmental field) **Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (SKA)** * Good communication and interpersonal skills for frequent contact with visitors and customers/clients. * Cooperative and friendly attitude at all times with managers, supervisors, and co-workers. * Must have basic knowledge of computers and smart phones. **Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations** CDL A or CDL B with Hazmat endorsements or the ability to obtain Hazmat, Tanker and Air Brakes endorsements. **Physical Demands** * Employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time. * Uses hands to handle, feel, and to reach with hands and arms. * Employee will need to be able to talk and hear to communicate. * Employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds for movement of equipment and drums. * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. * Employee may be in cramped or confined spaces for short periods of time. * Employee must physically be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary. * Ability to perform physical aspects of the job, such as lifting and climbing. * This position requires occasional customer, visitor, contractor, and vendor contact. **Work Environment** * Work is typically performed in a truck, at a customer’s facility and/or company service facility. * The elements will be dependent on the season. * Moderate noise level.
