Reporting to the Director of Media Relations, the Social Media Manager strategizes, writes, and produces personally, or solicits and gathers from other content contributors, articles, posts, and multimedia content for the University’s social media and main Web site presence.

The Manager is responsible for developing a strategy for building the University’s social media presence and for executing that strategy, engaging in continual outreach and building audience and community through an array of social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, etc.

S/he contributes to the Content team on story gathering and assignments, and builds and maintains a network of internal sources and story leads across the University for ongoing content creation.

S/he also collaborates on the content strategy, planning, and execution of the redesign of the main Web site.

The ideal candidate is an excellent writer/journalist for the Web, with superior editing skills and social media expertise, exposure to/experience with HTML and one or more content management systems, and at least basic video editing ability using Final Cut Pro or equivalent software.

A Bachelor’s degree is required; English, journalism or related field preferred. A minimum experience of 5 years in a media relations, editorial, or related role, writing on a wide variety of topics for a broad range of demographic groups is required.

Knowledge of social media marketing principles and online writing/editing experience.

Knowledge of content management systems and processes. Basic coding experience desirable.

Multimedia editing experience, preferably in the context of online communications. Solid reporting, interviewing, and research skills.

Ability to communicate in clean, concise and engaging prose across a variety of needs, from basic reportage to more marketing-oriented copy. An accurate, consistent, and detail-oriented editor.

Experience on integrated, collaborative teams and working with skilled personnel in media relations and editorial functions.

Knowledge of academic environment and/or familiarity with liberal arts and professional (Education, Business) disciplines highly desirable.

The ability to articulate sophisticated concepts in terms that are accessible to a lay reader.

Understanding of the Web design and editorial processes.

Experience contributing to the launch or re-launch of a Web site highly desirable.

Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.

Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with administration, faculty, alumni, students.

Facility with all appropriate Web and design-related software in a Macintosh environment.

Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
