Summary
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is seeking applications for the position of Senior Director of Marketing and Communications. The senior director will report to the Dean and will manage all branding, public relations, media relations, and marketing efforts for the School, including the newly created Eshelman Institute for Innovation. This position will provide a wide range of services to external constituents, faculty, staff, and students and will serve as key advisor within the School to the Dean, Executive Vice Dean and the Executive Committee on all issues related to marketing and communications.
Responsibilities
* The senior director is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing a comprehensive marketing and communications plan aligned with the strategic goals of the School and Institute, its development program, and UNC CH through University Communications. * The senior director will provide leadership, consultation and implementation of external communications, including development communications, events marketing, publicity of research and programs, and publicity of the Eshelman Institute for Innovation funded projects and impact, as well as recruitment efforts to both the professional and graduate programs of the School as it relates to branding, marketing, and web content. * The senior director will establish School policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Dean and the Executive Vice Dean, related to media relations, news releases, official publications, brand management, and web and social media communications.
Ideal Candidate
* Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. * A minimum of ten years of experience in communications, marketing, branding, public relations or related field with a proven track record of success in clearly articulating strategic messages to stake holders. * Minimum of five years of supervisory experience of professional staff. * Superior interpersonal/written and oral communication skills. * Knowledge of the techniques for disseminating information to the public through various channels of communication including print, web, email and various existing and new social media channels. * Ability to edit and analyze informational materials prepared by others. * Experience within a comprehensive, research university setting. * A high energy level and the drive to be successful. * An employment history highlighted by increasing levels of responsibility. * Experience working with strategic and integrated communications and market planning, as well implementation management. * Proven ability to manage and lead effectively, both people and programs, including planning, resource allocation, budget allocation and supervision. * Independent judgment and initiative required. * Excellent judgment under time pressure. * Strong diplomacy skills (able to successfully manage external and internal relationships and effectively liaise with colleagues at all levels) and a customer service oriented attitude. * Demonstrated experience working in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment. * Demonstrated experience in setting and achieving challenging goals. * Experience in publications management and in a fundraising environment. * Baccalaureate degree required with three years or greater of related professional experience in marketing, communications, journalism, public affairs, or a related field; * For candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.
