Summary
The Department of Engineering Education (DEE) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for the position of Department Head. The principal responsibility of this position is to provide leadership and management of the department including responsibility for planning, fiscal management, human resources, and departmental communications. The Department Head is expected to advance the research and teaching missions of the department, nurture collaborations across the college and campus, and work to achieve departmental, college, and university strategic goals.
Responsibilities
DEE, consisting of 8 full-time faculty, is responsible for teaching three foundational engineering courses to approximately 1150 first-year engineering students. Additionally, DEE provides tutoring and mentoring to all first-year students, and advises students in the Freshman Engineering Program (FEP) and Engineering and Applied Science Entrance Program (EASE). The Department is currently looking to develop graduate level courses focused on engineering education as well as to increase the number of courses taught with particular emphasis on common Engineering courses during the first two years within the Engineering Curriculum.
Ideal Candidate
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in engineering, engineering education or a closely related discipline, a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, and demonstrated intellectual leadership and administrative skills. The successful applicant will have a dedication to the instructional and research mission of the university including a strong commitment to advancing undergraduate engineering education through the development of innovative teaching pedagogies and curriculum development, and a strong history of funding and publications for engineering education related research projects. The successful candidate will also hold a tenure-track appointment in the department. Rank and tenure are commensurate with experience.
