Summary
As a Field Technician at Understory, you will work as a detail-minded, safety-focused weather station installation and repair technician. As a part of our team, you will work closely with our engineering group to perform weather station installation and maintenance; mapping of weather station structures and installations; aid with construction inspection, testing, and condition assessments; and development of inspection reports. The work environment is casual, flexible, and fun while also being fast paced and aggressive toward advancing technology. Your peers will be a multidisciplinary and diverse team building hardware, performing data analytics, developing cloud platforms, and releasing disruptive products. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be on the front lines of our weather station network deployments as we build out across the United States and internationally. Understory generates real-time, localized, atmospheric data, powered by its hyper-local grids of proprietary weather stations. We are in the middle of building the next generation of weather data and you can be an integral part of the team!
Responsibilities
* Become part of a dynamic team, be safety focused, demonstrate accuracy in report preparation, photo documentation, and inventory reporting * Travel to site locations and install weather stations based on project scope * Understand project scope to meet project guidelines that effectively balance technical requirements, constructability, cost, maintainability, operability and safety * Support project management during the construction phase of projects by resolving on-site problems and coordinating needed input from engineering team * Clearly communicate issues for over-the-phone support and troubleshooting with team members * Perform a dynamic set of electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks * Assist with lab and field tests by deploying weather stations and third party sensors * Provide technical review of plans and procedures when necessary * Prepare the evaluations for project work, including the feasibility, inventory needs, and project scope definition * Review equipment, material, and tools for site installation and make recommendations for process improvements * Interpret electrical and mechanical diagrams/schematics proficiently * Assist with site acquisition process by performing pre-construction site walks, attend municipal meetings, or scouting locations
Ideal Candidate
* Familiarity with climbing on ladders and comfortable with heights * Excellent mechanical aptitude; candidates will need to pass a mechanical reasoning assessment * CAD drafting experience (Solidworks, AutoCAD Inventor, etc.) * Aptitude for field work while being creative, flexible, and detail-oriented to meet strict deadlines * Proficient hands-on ability * Prior work experience in the tower, electric power distribution, home satellite installation, telecom, or construction industries is a plus * Demonstrated organization, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills * Be hardworking, learn quickly, and have the ability to work independently * Climbing certification and prior climbing experience is a plus * Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor a schedule, to support project deliverables, and to complete installation and/or repairs in a cost effective and timely manner * Work is fairly active and may require lifting of objects up to 75 pounds * Work may involve considerable bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, reaching, walking, standing, and working at heights and/or on irregular surfaces * Must have your own reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and have clean driving record, meet qualifications to be insured on company vehicles and able/willing to drive a company vehicle
