Summary
Job Description The Leader of Infrastructure Engineering will provide software, systems, and operational leadership to deliver highly available, low-latency experiences to Twilio engineering teams. This position will be instrumental in automating operations, scaling, and securing Twilio's always-on distributed systems. The role is leading a team of infrastructure engineers (devops, systems, network, and software developers), as part of a 24x7 on-call organization headquartered in San Francisco, CA. About the job: This person will be responsible for reducing risk to the organization by providing a common set of infrastructure and processes that teams can leverage as building blocks to develop services. The leader will oversee all infrastructure services provided by AWS and other SaaS/PaaS/Cloud vendors, including access management, credential management, PKI solutions, infrastructure and services OPEX management. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in building software and processes that deliver operational excellence on all levels, including coordinating and driving issues to resolution.
Responsibilities
* Develop a world-class 24x7 engineering organization. * Lead the delivery of high-availability and high performance platforms; ensure uptime with the goal being five nines (99.999%). * Develop and implement best-in-class technologies and operational procedures, including development and constant betterment of tooling. * Technically dive deep; balance technology needs with business, customers’ needs and demands. * Drive continual process improvement and own performance visibility. * Automate and instrument common customer requests (access management, certificate management, security groups, RBAC). * Manage cloud and data center assets, including capacity mgmt & TCO. * Work closely with other teams in R&D to discover upcoming application changes to drive effective planning, optimal infrastructure utilization, and a highly secure network and compute environment.
Ideal Candidate
Skills & Requirements * Extensive experience in large scale, high performance, 24x7 Internet-oriented SaaS/PaaS/IaaS production environments. * Track record of effectively owning, improving and optimizing world-class incident response processes and on-call teams. * Must be a strong, passionate, detail-oriented Leader who can prioritize, values the customer, is innovative as well as quantitative, can communicate clearly and will bring a consistent history of delivery. The role requires creative engineering balanced with high quality and customer focus for solutions with business relevance. * Experience with public cloud providers (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure). * Great recruiter and mentor, experience managing software, systems, and network engineers. * Experience in using a feedback loop to accomplish ongoing improvements. * Demonstrable expertise around specifying, designing, and implementing cloud management, system health, performance monitoring tools, and software management tools. * Familiar with the challenges surrounding efficient operations and failure mode analysis in large complex distributed systems.
