With over 105 years of property risk control and safety management experience, plus leading industrial hygiene, fire and forensics laboratories, Travelers Risk Control has the expertise to provide customers with recommendations to help control hazards and reduce risks of property damage or injury. The main responsibility of this summer opportunity is to develop property risk control and general insurance industry knowledge & to assist in providing property risk control support to home office and field consultants. This is a 10-week, paid position in Hartford, CT (or the immediate area) with company subsidized housing.
Responsibilities
* The candidate will be responsible for working within a team environment to: * Assist in preparing, conducting, and completing risk evaluations of client locations * Assist in determining the potential hazards and risk factors to be considered in risk selection * Assist in identifying uncontrolled hazards and making related recommendations * Research and apply technical information to support current property risk control service efforts * Developing primarily Property, but also Casualty, insurance knowledge and general business skills * Attending co-surveys with experienced Risk Control personnel to learn and develop consulting skills * Assist in consulting with clients on ways to control hazards to help them reduce, mitigate, or prevent loss * Learn how to identify and apply risk control products or services that align to the recommendations * Collaborating with Underwriting, Claim, Clients, BI Business Partners and other Risk Control staff * Other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
* Rising junior or senior pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, or a Technology Degree in related field of study is required. The candidate should demonstrate the proficiency in the following, but not required: * Microsoft Office software applications * Knowledge of NFPA Codes Technical, detail oriented aptitude & critical thinking skills * Research and project management skills * Excellent presentation skills and effective writing skills * Strong communication and organizational skills, including written, verbal and listening * Good employee collaboration and interaction skills * Self-awareness
