Summary
Body design engineers have full responsibility for design and development of vehicle upper body parts: Body Shell, Exterior Parts (ex: Bumper, Grill, Lamps, etc.), Functional Parts (Mirrors, Moonroof, Window Regulator, etc.), and Interior Parts (Instrument Panel, Airbags, Seats, Trim, etc.).
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the design and development of upper body parts * Manage upper body component development of a vehicle project from concept stage through production then current production; follow by using Toyota development methodologies and processes for vehicle development * Plan structure of upper body parts through target setting, packaging and style feasibility * Execute design in CAD either independently or by leading Supplier Engineers or CAD modelers * Proactively improve design quality and cost for responsible vehicles in production * Weekly reporting to management * Design of component parts using CAD to meet all engineering requirements, create and maintain the component development schedule through SOP, support part evaluation and provide effective countermeasures as required * Benchmark competitor vehicles * Participation in evaluation and manufacturing activities at the event location - both domestic and international * Assess and adjust progress (develop risk management) to maintain project targets – i.e. schedule, performance, cost, quality * Warranty tracking, countermeasures and root cause analysis * Follow responsible parts from design through validation and launch including problem solving of technical issues * Design and development of parts utilizing CATIA * Identify issues/barriers influencing the overall project schedule and make recommendations to recover utilizing risk management * Perform root cause analysis providing effective countermeasures * Participate in cross functional decision making teams * Visualization of issues, concerns and gaps in current design process. Participate in improvement and reflection activities
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline * Engineering experience in a professional setting (internship, full-time, or engineering organization such as FSAE) * Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with suppliers, affiliates and Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan) * Ability to travel domestically and internationally including Japan, Mexico, Canada **Preferred:** * Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering * Automotive engineering experience * Engineering design experience * CAD experience, preferably Catia * Project management skills including coordination of suppliers
