Software Engineer

Thumbtack is a local services marketplace that connects customers who need to get things done with local, skilled professionals who can help. From plumbers and painters to DJs and personal trainers, Thumbtack helps millions of customers find the right professional for their project in over 1,000 categories.

As a Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for helping bring the Thumbtack vision to life. You’ll work in collaboration with engineering, product, and design to execute on a diverse range of projects. This might include building new product features, architecting infrastructure to support a fast-­growing user base, or optimizing our marketplace mechanics.

Key Qualifications

• Comfortable working with a variety of languages and technologies (for languages, we use Go, Scala, Python, PHP).
• Passionate about writing high quality, maintainable code.
• Highly motivated self-starter, able to think critically about problems and independently scope and drive software projects to resolution.
• You appreciate good statistical analysis and the power of data-­driven decisions, and are familiar with running A/B tests.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience building out alerting and monitoring for production systems.
• Experience with tools in the big data ecosystem such Hadoop/HDFS, Hive, Spark.
• Experience working in a startup environment.
