Summary
Search is a huge part of our traffic mix at Thrillist.com, and we're looking for someone who can build off that very sturdy base and take our approach and execution to a completely different level. The person in this position will manage a team of writers and editors who create search-friendly stories in all of our verticals -- Food & Drink, Travel, Sex & Dating, Entertainment, Tech, Cars, and Health -- both nationally and locally. They'll have the dual responsibility of growing that team's skill and focus, and making the best possible decisions on high-potential stories that Google will love. Ask Jeeves too!
Responsibilities
* Manage a team of writers and editors specifically focused on producing stories that generate search traffic * Direct all strategy for that team -- what stories are they working on? Why? What is the best tailored approach for each story? * Grow writers and editors through a very hands-on approach, and use your guidance and knowledge to make them better literally every single day * Ensure that our stories are the opposite of boring: just because it's search doesn't mean it can't be fun as hell * Select and use third party tools to guide and enhance everything we do in search * Hit and exceed search traffic goals set by our Editorial Director * Coordinate with our vertical heads to make story selection decisions that are on-brand * Create high-level search stories that also perform well elsewhere: our email, on social media, etc * Hire new writers and editors along with our Editorial Director
Ideal Candidate
* Minimum two years editorial management experience * Minimum two years experience creating search-specific content * Is highly familiar with the search landscape in all our verticals, and already has insight into how to crack the code(s) * Knows Google Webmaster inside and out * Has experience with other third-party tools that help guide a search attack * Is the kind of manager who can't wait to teach and grow a team
