Summary
This lab based position is within the Lubrizol Additives R&D Chemical Synthesis group located in Wickliffe, Ohio. The position supports our Component Interaction and Assessment (CIA) group. The goal of the CIA group is to provide the fundamental knowledge necessary to formulate robust products and to provide guidance to the plants during the transition of new platforms and products from R&D to manufacturing. The Component Interaction and Assessment role is a hybrid of a synthesis chemist and formulator. It uses formulation and chemical knowledge to resolve potential issues during product development. This person will interact with people in Chemical Synthesis, Analytical, business segments, Pilot Plant and Operations. The ultimate goal of this position is to make robust additives and lubricant formulations. This role is perfect for people who may want to pursue a technology manager, formulator or program manager role in the future.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with formulators and other stakeholders to develop robust new products. - Manage projects in the early stages of the product development process. - Influence best practices in the design of new products and become familiar with formulating strategies and how they impact product quality. - Gain understanding of component chemistry, become familiar with new component development and develop structure-performance relationships. - Identify and develop blend procedures that enable new components, new formulation shapes and robust product quality. - Support Product quality initiatives and customer problems. - Document, interpret and communicate results and recommendations to technical and commercial management and internal customers. - Participate in review meetings, technology summits, and other team communication meetings. - Utilize advanced knowledge, data, DOE and statistical tools to solve technical challenges related to the business. - Support product development by formulating, evaluating and analyzing new and existing products. - Follow safe laboratory practices.
Ideal Candidate
**Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:** - B.S. in Chemistry or Engineering (or the equivalent). - Minimum of 3 years hands on formulation / development experience and performance testing regardless of the industry. - Strong interpersonal skills. - Self-starter with the ability to work independently and on teams in a multidisciplinary environment. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. **Considered a Plus:** - Track record of innovative thinking and accomplishments. - Project management and/or chemical technology development experience. - Experience in the synthesis, formulation or testing of lubricant additives. - An advanced degree in Chemistry.
