Summary
This position will report to the Elmendorf Operations Manager. The goals of this position are to provide technical support and project oversight to multiple chemical manufacturing locations utilizing in depth chemical/process engineering techniques.
Responsibilities
* Provide engineering support to refine current chemical manufacturing processes. * Evaluate current processes and suggest/implement process improvements to improve product quality and decrease cycle time and cost. * Assess current plant function and reduce operating bottlenecks. * Evaluate current manufacturing equipment for opportunities to install instrumentation and controls. * Work with project group and plant personnel on projects from R&D to design/modify production equipment. * Utilize small-scale pilot reactors for process modeling and product scale-up. * Work with local plant management and the project group to develop and define the scope of projects. * Work with local plant personnel and the project group to specify materials and equipment needed to fully complete the project. * Select appropriate contractors and obtain quotes needed to complete the project * Sum up bid totals and write justification for presentation to local and upper management for approval. * Coordinate with local management to generate an appropriate time frame for the project to start once the AFE/project funding is approved. * Develop detailed schedules and project tracking methods to accurately report progress, milestones, or project hindrances. * Oversee contractors as needed and work closely with local maintenance crews during the course of the project. * Work with local management and personnel to perform training, as needed and final hand-off to manufacturing upon completion of the project. * Track cost of project during construction phase and sum up total for completion of AFE process and final submittal to accounting and asset management groups. * Perform requirements for documentation with regard to Process Safety Management (PSM) including development of P&ID, PFD and equipment specification requirements. * Know and understand Lubrizol Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions. * Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Lubrizol. * Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level. * Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. * Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in the chemical/process engineering field, preferably with a specialty chemical manufacturer. * Knowledge and experience in chemical manufacturing processes. * SAP experience considered a plus.
