Compliance Accountant

The JCVI is a not-for-profit research institute in Rockville, MD and La Jolla, CA dedicated to the advancement of the science of genomics; the understanding of its implications for society; and communication of those results to the scientific community, the public, and policymakers.

Essential Functions:

• Facilitate key project meetings, including executive committees and working groups for COO.
• Develop and execute communication and training plans for new control implementation.
• Prepare and file institute’s property tax return and assist with property tax audit.
• Prepare and file institute’s sales tax return and assist with sales tax audit.
• Assist in month end close, bank and account reconciliation and other accounting projects.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Research and update policy and procedures.
• Prepares working papers and reports findings.
• Other duties as assigned

Prerequisites

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. 2-3 years of experience in auditing with accounting or finance -Public accounting experience required.
• Experience working with cross functional departments to research and resolve issues.
• Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage a heavy workload -- Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information is critical
• Knowledge of audit standards, policies and procedures.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with presentation skills
• Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate project deadlines.
