Summary
This systems engineering position is responsible for the architecture of the high performance computing infrastructure. Job activities include designing, implementing, and maintaining tools and techniques that permit the automated configuration, administration, and maintenance of large numbers of multi-user high performance computer systems and software. The systems engineer actively participates in the development and implementation of long-term strategies directly related to high performance computing infrastructure and architectures.
Responsibilities
* Deep understanding of various Linux/Unix operating system internals with proven hands-on operational experience including kernel/system optimization and tuning of log collection mechanisms * Make informed decisions directly related to creating new deployment and administration best practices to architect new practice management methodologies for Linux based infrastructures and configuration consistency across multiple environments * Evaluates, selects, and applies a wide variety of off-the-shelf and open source technologies to orchestrate the provisioning of bare metal and virtual systems, software installations, operating system and third party application upgrades and patching, as well as the management of various technical computing software stacks * Utilizes existing and new tools and techniques for automated tracking and optimization of IT resources * Coordinates with support teams including network, security, application, customer, and relevant third party vendor teams regarding server, storage, and technical application architecture and deployment methods * Develops strategies and roadmaps in collaboration with other internal and external scientific engineering teams
Ideal Candidate
**Required** * 5 or more years or relevant experience with Bachelor's Degree or 3 or more years of relevant experience with Master's Degree * Demonstrated experience with current and state-of the-art computer technologies and experience building large scale Linux based infrastructures. * Demonstrated technical expertise in supporting, configuring, maintaining, and monitoring Linux and Unix operating systems, hardware, applications across multiple technology stacks * Demonstrated experience with IT automation and configuration management technologies such as Puppet, Razor, PXE, Ansible, or Chef * Demonstrated proficiency of systems administration concepts as they pertain to technical computing systems and industry best practices * Must have experience with service and change management processes * This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. **Preferred** * Familiarity or experience across high performance computing domains (servers, storage, and networking) * Strong familiarity with Splunk operational intelligence * Excellent oral and written communications, interpersonal, and influencing skills * Customer service orientation with a technical user community * Experience in providing technical leadership to Linux and UNIX administrators and leading technical teams * Puppet Certified Professional, CompTIA Linux, Network+ or Security+ certifications
