Summary
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Plano is seeking a Surgical Tech in the Surgery Department
Responsibilities
* Assists in providing peri-operative care for a patient population that includes Infants, Pediatrics, Adults, and Geriatrics. * Preoperatively assists R.N. circulator in formulating plan of care. * Instrumentation is handled during basic to complex surgical procedures with proficiency in multiple services. * Surgeons needs are anticipated. * The ability to respond to procedure variations is shown. * Specimens are handled correctly. * The sterile field is monitored and maintained in a manner that minimizes the risk of transfer of infection and accidental contamination. * Good communication skills are displayed with circulator/surgeon. * Medications are properly identified on sterile field per policy. * Under supervision assists RN with intra-operative duties. * Instruments are handled with care. * Concerns and/or special handling are communicated as necessary to instrument room personnel. * Supplies and equipment are returned to designated storage. * Room turnover is timely and effective. * Preference cards are updated and changes initialed as new techniques are instituted. * Sharps are handled and disposed of properly. * Assists in the delivering of nursing care in a manner that minimizes the risk of transfer of infection and accidental contamination. * Assists in delivering patient care in a manner which protects the patient from injury. * Surgeon preference cards are updated and changes are initiated as new techniques are instituted. * Ineffective and costly processes are identified and action is taken to improve those processes. * Continually strives to improve customer satisfaction. * Actively participates in helping the OR meet its goals. * Supplies and time are used judiciously. * Potential quality problems, ie. deviation from standards of care, are identified. * Assists as needed in coordinating patient care peri-operatively and assumes responsibility and accountability for behavior in order to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
Ideal Candidate
* High School Graduate or G.E.D. **Minimum Licensure/Certification Requirements:** * Graduate of an accredited surgical tech program with a current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist, or LVN OR Graduate/completion of a military training program in surgical technology (certification must be obtained within 2 years from first day of employment in surgical technologist position), CPR within 30 days of hire **Minimum Experience Requirements:** * 1 year previous Neurology Surgical Scrub Tech experience preferred. **Minimum Skill Requirements:** * A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 6:30am-5pm Call required
