Summary

Work in concert with the site Analytics team to provide financial leadership to Refining business unit in the areas of financial accounting and compliance. Administers and interprets accounting principles and corporate policies and procedures applicable to local operations.

Responsibilities
  • Manage refinery accounting close process to ensure monthly activity is recorded accurately, on schedule and in compliance with GAAP/FASB requirements and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Responsible for analysis, recording and maintenance of SAP accounting records related to transactions including variable expenses, fixed expenses, and capital expenditures to insure accurate balance sheet, income statement and profit margin reporting.
  • Assists with resolution of daily problems that may occur related to general accounting processes.
  • Assists on special projects as assigned by Manager or Director, Operations accounting.
  • Support process improvement and standardization efforts.
  • Ability to cross-train at other assigned plants to ensure efficient coverage of department responsibilities.
  • Works independently on month-end closing procedures and assists team as needed.
Ideal Candidate

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related field is required.
  • Minimum 4 years of accounting/finance experience or 3 years of refining accounting experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, financial statements and reports, and ledgers and journals
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient in using accounting or related systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to review and analyze complex accounting information
  • Ability to identify, research, and resolve complex accounting issues
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment and promote teamwork
  • Ability to effectively interact with management
  • Must be flexible, schedule based on the business need
  • Up to 25% travel is required.
