The New Product Development Mechanical Engineer (E1) designs and develops innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical product components or sub-systems for industrial and commercial mobile cleaning equipment. This position works as part of cross-functional development teams to create designs that meet requirements for performance, product cost, and the project schedule.
- Creates new concepts to achieve functions of assigned mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystems
- Designs and performs analysis of systems and components including tolerance stack-up and GD&T
- Prepares CAD models, layouts and drawings to support project needs and responsible for accurate documentation of all assigned work
- Creates design changes, specifications, and drawing releases and documentation as required as part of the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process
- Identifies and investigates technology developments relevant to assigned subsystems
- Leverages laboratory and field test data to understand and manage design trade-offs
- Collaborates closely with the lead engineers and other systems team members to achieve program goals
- Prepares product designs in compliance with engineering principles, company standards, government regulations, and customer requirements
- Supports the development of project plans and schedules. Tracks and reports progress to project leadership
- Supports the planning and execution of prototype builds at the subsystem level
- Supports production implementation of assigned subsystems
- Documents subsystems design knowledge to ensure future value to the organization
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution
- A minimum of 1 year experience working as a Coop or Intern or otherwise working in a professional environment
- Six sigma experience preferred
Required Skills
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
- Demonstrated ability to model and predict system performance based on engineering principles and design constraints
- Proficiency in CAD and 3D modeling (SolidWorks desired)
- Understanding of engineering statistical analysis processes
- Strong grasp of a wide variety of manufacturing materials and processes
- Strong creativity and problem solving skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and meet project timelines
- Ability to complete engineering tasks as directed by others and apply accurate documentation practices
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- High level of initiative and strong desire to drive new ideas, components, and solutions into the project teams
- Perseverance to work with team to see concepts through to production
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
- SAP knowledge desired (not required)
