Teradata Database Administrator

Responsible for administering, analyzing, recommending, designing, developing, enhancing and supporting data structures and data processes required to meet data warehouse business objectives. Contributes considerable business and technical knowledge to complex IT projects.

* Participates in or leads a Data Engineering Team supporting one or more application projects * Collaborates with the project team, other project teams, and other vendors to estimate, plan and manage the Data Engineering activities and deliverables including data loads, data refreshes, data warehouse, and, structure changes * Updates and communicates project status to management, team members, and other supporting vendors * Responsible for design, development, maintenance and documentation of data warehouse data flows * Understands existing and new business requirements and makes recommendations for new technology adoption where appropriate * Maintain currency in database, data management, data warehouse, and industry trends through research/education/self-motivated training and personal development * Mentors and educates colleagues with respect to database design and implementation practices * Develop data model and leads database code reviews * Develop and monitors data warehouse batch schedules * Enforce application coding standards * Proactively resolve application and database performance issues. * Takes initiative to modernize non-standard models, processes, and implementations * Coordinate database development and maintenance activities with project and client teams * Implement new database change requests * Updates and communicates project status to management and users * Build/upgrade and tune Oracle and Teradata databases * Backup and restore databases as appropriate. * Effectively manage and monitor all aspects of RDBMS environment * Support development, test, and production Oracle and Teradata databases including concurrent development efforts * Review application code and provide performance improvement and error handling recommendations * Participate in weekly on-call rotation * Follow and contribute to organization best practices * Support emergency, interim, and full system releases * Other duties as assigned

* Minimum 7 years of experience in database administration and structured development methodology * Computer Science or Business degree or equivalent working experience * Experience with the full project lifecycle from conception to implementation & support * Excellent communication skills and works well with diverse teams or independently * Self-starter with excellent organization, planning, documentation and time management skills * Ability to analyze business cases, extract requirements and understand business needs * Proficiency with meta data, data modeling and data quality tools * Proficiency with Golden Gate replication * Experience in Oracle 11g Database Administration * Experience in Teradata Database Administration * Experience with terabyte databases * Multi-platform and multi-system integration experience * DBMS Industry recognized certification preferred * Unix knowledge including shell scripting * Knowledge of VMware * Oracle GRID * 5 years technical experience in: o Oracle SQL o Oracle PL/SQL o Oracle Forms o Oracle Stored Procedures and Packages o Oracle gateway for Teradata o Data modeling and entity relationship management o Unix administration o Enterprise system management o System redundancy and failover strategies o High-availability strategies o Window 2000/2003 server o Pragma o PostalSoft (Data Quality XI) o Business Objects (Designer and WEBI) o Teradata Data Warehouse Architecture o TeraData SQL o Teradata Performance Tuning and Analysis o Teradata Data Warehouse development strategies (bteq, procedure, macros) o C o Cobol o Visual Basic o UNIX expertise (scripting (shell and awk), command line, cron) for use in the AIX, Tru64, Solaris and NCR Unix environments
