About TED
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.
Responsibilities
TED is seeking a marketing writer to join its content and editorial team, to help spread the word about TED Talks and to generate interest in and excitement about TED's many initiatives. This person will be passionate about all things TED, will delight in figuring out creative ways to bring new people into our community and will excel at marketing our many conferences and events without over-selling.
Ideal Candidate
* Writing for the TED Blog, creating posts that act as the record for everything that TED organizes throughout the year (eg, generating interest for our many conferences, raising awareness of a new class of TED Fellows, announcing a new initiative from TED-ED, describing new creative content produced by our partnerships team). * Collaborating with our social team to produce short, snappy, sharp posts for TED's various social media platforms * Developing and writing newsletters appropriate for TED's general audience and for niche communities * Writing or editing all email communications from TED so that every time we connect with our audience -- via display copy, error messages or a confirmation note -- we're delighting and surprising them, whilst also reinforcing what TED means to them. This is a great job if you're a spectacular writer with incredible attention to detail, you're comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and you're already passionate about TED's mission of spreading ideas.
