About TED
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.
Summary
We’re on the search for an experienced, detail-oriented and deeply collaborative front-end engineer.
Responsibilities
Engineers work on the entire range of TED initiatives (TEDx, TED Ed, TED Fellows, and the TED Prize) as well as the main www.TED.com site. We are also responsible for a myriad of internal applications which (among many other things) power our video production pipeline, syndicate our video content to partners worldwide and build a lasting archive of ideas. Our team is passionate about TED’s content and the prospect of creating a stronger platform to enable the exchange of ideas worldwide. We’re endlessly curious. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. And we love nice people.
Ideal Candidate
* Expertise in JavaScript & CSS * Self-starter who can manage their own time and project workload * Values cross-functional collaboration, works well in iterative development process, and able to balance negotiations between doing it right and doing it fast. * Pluses: experience with Ember, Ruby on Rails, node.js, HTML5 video streaming technologies, CDNs, digital asset management systems, Gulp and/or Grunt
