Summary
TED's Technology team provides engineering, product, and analytics services to the organization. TED is seeking a Data Engineer for our Tech team to help build the tools and processes to scale our use of data. If you enjoy getting your hands dirty with design and implementation of data products, taking ownership of governance and data quality, and are driven by TED’s mission, this role is ideal for you. This position reports directly to the Data Scientist as well as the CTO.
Responsibilities
* Ensure data quality and accuracy - detect data/analytics quality issues, troubleshoot to root cause and implement fixes; instrument data audit tooling to prevent/capture such issues * Design, build, and maintain processes and components of a data ingestion pipeline and data warehouse * Define and develop reporting UI, standard reports, forecasts, and dashboards from data warehouse * Assist in design and development of management and reporting systems for product testing (A/B and multivariate) * Develop and support internal R/Shiny server deployment for prototyping and development of analysis products and tools * Provide ad-hoc and in-depth analysis and reporting

**Requirements:** * A desire to take ownership of data quality * Confident self-starter with professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills * Ability to work proactively and independently * Excellent capacity to learn quickly, think on the fly and self teach as required * Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills * Effective working in fast-paced, small company * Goal oriented with strong willingness to learn and constantly improve **Education and Experience:** * Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related engineering/statistics field * 5+ years of data engineering experience, using open source tools * 1+ years experience with Google Analytics instrumentation/implementation, and reporting and analysis * Strong programming experience with any of: Ruby, Python, Java * Experience with production deployment and support in an AWS ecosystem * Experience working with agile software engineering methodologies * Experience with programmatic ETL of data from external sources via SQL and APIs * Familiarity with statistical computing in R or Python * Project management experience across a diverse organization * A passion for TED and a broad interest in the world – including science/technology, design/architecture, global development, and entertainment/arts – are big pluses.
