About TEAGUE
Founded in 1926 by design pioneer Walter Dorwin Teague, TEAGUE is the original design consultancy. As proof, our portfolio spans many firsts: the Polaroid camera, the UPS truck, Texaco-branded service stations, the Pringles canister, and the Xbox.
Summary
**Why We Need This Position** A large part of TEAGUE’s success rests on its talent for envisioning a bold future and its steadfast conviction that creative solutions can enhance the way people experience the world around them. But that isn’t all it takes to get the job done. Successful innovation in the realm of global aviation also requires a keen understanding of a client’s business strategy, a collaborative approach, and sensational communication skills to convey how our ideas align with client needs. That’s where you come in.
Responsibilities
The Senior Experience Designer / Lighting innovates at the intersection of interaction design, industrial design, and interior architecture in modern aviation. This position is responsible for creating spatial lighting experience solutions that range from artistically-inspired to engineering-based, designing experiences and interactions between crew, passengers, and the aircraft interior throughout the journey. This person has a deep curiosity around adjacent areas, including industrial design, communications design, materials engineering, and human behavior, and understands how these fields influence the realm of lighting.
Ideal Candidate
**Who We’re Looking For** Consider yourself an Ambassador of Light. In this role, you will go deep into what lighting means to people, evangelize about its importance to internal teams, and eloquently demonstrate how good lighting aligns with clients’ business objectives and overall strategy. In addition to conveying the theoretical value of good lighting to colleagues and clients, you work closely with teams to create and develop lighting experience concepts for projects and pitches through sketches, renderings, animations and functional prototypes. Part visionary, part strategist, part tinkerer, you are capable of bridging the gap between functional lighting requirements and experience objectives, product and architectural design, visionary and maker. In addition to your vision and passion, you excel at bringing your ideas to life through inspired storytelling, the creation of experience demonstrations, and user testing. Finally, you have a keen understanding of the nuts and bolts of the design process: You have the leadership and discipline to guide a project from concept through integration; know how to collaborate effectively with a multi-sensory creative team of designers, animators, video editors, writers, and creative directors (among others); and know how to work with leaderships to develop strategy for project approach, deliverables, resource allocation and schedules. If you’d like to come and represent light for TEAGUE, we’d love to see how brightly you shine. **What We Just Said, Now in 5 Bullet Points (a.k.a., Essential Qualifications):** * Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Multi-media, Theater or Production Design, Exhibit Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, or equivalent creative field; Master’s Degree or higher in one of the above fields preferred; and a body of related research; additional experience or education in computer sciences, cognitive sciences, and/or fine arts; 5+ years of experience in Lighting Experience Design or Interaction Design (with a demonstrated focus on lighting), though less experienced candidates who demonstrate high skill may be considered; a portfolio that demonstrates strong understanding and experience in applying best practices in user-centered design principles, practices, research and prototyping; experience writing design briefs and creatively leading multi-disciplinary teams * Skills: Advanced 3-D computer modeling software skills: Light Tools, Rhino, Solidworks, or other equivalent; Adobe CSS3 mastery: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects or other equivalent; experience in sketching, rendering and animating lighting experiences or other equivalent; a strong understanding of the design and control of projection systems, digital content creation, interactive or real-time projected content, and 3D projection mapping * Passion: Representing the value of light in the realm of aviation * Role: Creating innovative lighting solutions and communicating how they help clients meet their business objectives * Personality: passionate, visionary, strategic, creative, collaborative At TEAGUE, we value diversity.
