SunPower is seeking a bright, self-driven, independent thinking engineer to be part of the world class Modules R&D group at SunPower Corporation. As part of the team, he/she will be responsible the design and development of equipment designs for P-Series products and the products they produce. P-Series is a new manufacturing technique for making modules. This position will work closely with System R&D, Cell R&D, Reliability, New product integration and Global Manufacturing to implement new features and keep existing tools online in a fast pace environment.
- Help drive the next generation technologies of module manufacturing
- Support deployment of new concepts, tools and processes in high volume manufacturing globally
- Develop mechanical, electrical and mechatronic systems. Strong emphasis on hands on knowledge and intuition.
- Equipment design for high volume manufacturing
- Process and product development in a manufacturing environment
- Communicate with and drive vendors/partners for component or equipment procurement
- Enhance overall ability of SunPower to succeed in cost reduction projects, including opportunity identification, cost analysis, project planning, execution, and reporting
- Makes implementation design decisions around new feature requests
- Analyzes technical requirements with the team to gauge level of effort
- Creates technical documentation for new features that can be easily understood by peers
- Keeps abreast of new technologies
- Work across departmental boundaries to form cross-functional teams per the requirements of individual projects
- Strong communication and management skills – both written and verbal
- Strong customer focused attitude
Minimum Requirements:
- B.S. degree with 4 yrs of experience in Mechanical engineering or related engineering fields. Alternatively, M.S. degree with a minimum of 2 yrs experience or a Ph.D. with 0-2 yrs of experience.
- Expert in developing new concepts and delivering a working solution on time and budget
- Creative problem solver; able to adapt quickly to new priorities and changing environment
- Ability to works on problems of diverse scope while staying on schedule
- Expert level with mechanical CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Knowledge of mechatronics / automation systems and components
- Hands on experience designing and assembling mechanical systems
- Able to read and create electrical schematics
- Motivated, self-starter – expect a startup environment
- Ability to work both independently and with diverse teams
- Proven ability and track record showing how to apply scientific problem-solving techniques
- Willing to travel to and work at SunPower manufacturing sites and/or suppliers up to 15% of the time
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience in solar a plus but not necessary
- Min 2 years hands on experience in an automated tool manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated track record for project management and expedite new project introduction in a global environment
- Strong communication, goal-setting, and project management skills
- Ability to quickly process large amounts of information, assess critical path issues and drive timely to resolution
