Lead Search and Discovery Engineer

StyleSeat's core business is based on mapping consumer demand efficiently to our large and growing, diverse, local supply inventory of beauty professionals. The Search and Discovery problem at StyleSeat is a complex and interesting one. Some of the challenges:

• Understanding and segmenting users by intent quickly into consumer segments with different browse and book behavior
• Categorizing a very broad base of beauty services in different shapes and sizes into a taxonomy of bookable inventory
• Indexing the rapidly changing schedule availability of these services across different professions and price-points
• Leveraging these different elements along with a broad array of attributes into a search algorithm and UI to optimize bookings and drive value to our professionals and consumers

The Search and Discovery team owns everything from backend infrastructure through to user experience, and works closely with the supply operations team on tracking and improving our overall supply health. As such, members of this team will span Infrastructure, Search Algorithm, Machine Learning, and UI Engineers.

This position is a Lead Engineer to oversee the group and drive the Search and Discovery product to success.

• Production-scale consumer expertise with Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Recommendation Systems
• Experience working with large, custom search systems.
• Experience with Hadoop, Lucene, Spark and similar relevant technologies
• Rigor in A/B testing, automated testing, and other engineering best practices
• Exposure to architectural patterns of large, high-scale web applications
• Production Python experience
• Strong CS fundamental
