Job Posting Details
About St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, is one of the world's premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.
Summary
The Computational Biology and Hematology Departments are highly collaborative and interactive, both within St. Jude and with outside investigators. The specific areas of research may include projects on the genetics and molecular biology of hematopoiesis, the mechanisms of blood diseases, modulation of chromatin structure by transcription factors, gene therapy vector-genome interactions and hematopoietic stem cell gene regulation. Candidates with deep understanding of biological problems, critical thinking, and expertise in genomic data analysis especially in phylogenetic analysis are highly encouraged to apply for this position.
Responsibilities
The Bioinformatics Research Scientist will be part of the Hematology Department and will work in collaboration with the Computational Biology on research projects with SJCRH investigators in the Department of Hematology. The Computational Biology Department has a well-established track record in leading bioinformatics analysis for high-profile collaborative research projects such as the St. Jude/Washington University Pediatric Cancer Genome Project, which has resulted in multiple, high impact publications in the journals of New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Methods, JAMA and Cancer Cell. Computational Biology provides a highly collaborative teamwork environment, access to state-of-art computational infrastructure, well-established analytical pipeline, and deep experience in analyzing, managing, visualizing and delivering high-quality results for highly competitive projects. The bioinformatics research scientist will have an opportunity to work on large-scale discovery projects using the latest genomic sequencing technology including whole genome/exome sequencing, RNA-seq, CHIP-seq and MiSeq. The Hematology Department performs cutting edge basic and translational research on normal and pathological blood cell formation and gene therapy, which has resulted numerous high profile studies published in journals including Nature, the New England Journal of Medicine, Cell Stem Cell, Developmental Cell, The Journal of Clinical Investigation and others.
