Responsibilities
SJCRH Computational Biology (Comp. Bio) Department is looking for a highly motivated bioinformatics research scientist to work on collaborative research projects with SJCRH investigators and external scientists. The Department has a well-established track record in leading bioinformatics analysis for high-profile collaborative research projects such as the St. Jude/Washington University Pediatric Cancer Genome Project which has resulted in multiple, high impact publications in the journals of New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Methods, JAMA and Cancer Cell. CompBio provides a highly collaborative teamwork environment, access to state-of-art computational infrastructure, well-established analytical pipeline, and deep experience in analyzing, managing, visualizing and delivering high-quality results for highly competitive projects. The bioinformatics research scientist will have an opportunity to work on large-scale discovery projects using the latest genomic sequencing technology including whole genome/exome sequencing, RNA-seq, CHIP-seq and MiSeq. The specific areas may include cancer genome characterization for primary tumor and mouse model, familial diseases, influenza virus genome evolution, bacterial infection and meta-genomics and gene therapy. Candidates with deep understanding of biological problems, critical thinking, and expertise in genomic data analysis especially in phylogenetic analysis are highly encouraged to apply for this position. Ideal Candidate
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: * Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics or related field required. * Ph.D. which must include research related to bioinformatics (such as analysis of sequence data, microarrays, SNPs, image data, proteomics data, or biological pathways; development of algorithms, statistical methods, or scientific software). OR * If Ph.D. with no bioinformatics research, then two (2) years of pre-or postdoctoral experience in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics research is required. * Experience with programming languages such as Perl, C, Phyton or Java required. Preferred skills: * Knowledge on statistical analysis package such as R and Matlab is highly desired. * Bioinformatics research experience related to murine genomics preferred.
