Responsibilities
Spoonflower makes it possible for individuals to create and sell unique fabrics, wallpaper and gift wrap. Many of the designers who use our site also use it to sell their work, making Spoonflower the world’s largest marketplace of surface designs created by indie artists. The community of designers and shoppers who make up Spoonflower is very important to us. At Spoonflower, creativity, resourcefulness, authenticity, fun and trust are the core values of our workplace. Our team is full of creative, multitalented individuals who share, in common with our customers, a DIY ethic and a commitment to hard work. We are currently seeking two senior level Web Designers. Both will work collaboratively and cross-functionally, and will share responsibility for consistently providing and communicating Spoonflower’s brand, product and personality. **Senior Marketing Web Designer** - Our marketing team engages in many tasks, from developing content for our blog, email marketing and social media, to managing our weekly design contests. - The marketing designer will be responsible for shooting -- or directing the shooting of -- product photos and videos, design of landing pages and emails, developing print collateral, and helping develop and communicate the Spoonflower brand across many platforms. - As a Senior Designer within our Marketing department, we’ll look to you to be a leader on the marketing team, to bring best practices to the design of email templates, marketing collateral and landing pages, and to function as a skilled collaborator with software engineers and project managers. - As part of the team responsible for communicating the Spoonflower brand and personality, we will look to you to help develop, in collaboration with other departments, a robust style guide for use across the company, one that is the product of good decisions about where we should keep established styles and where we should move beyond them or develop new ones. - The selected candidate will need the ability to collaborate with a design and UX team in our product department to provide a cohesive brand experience. **Senior Product Web Designer** - As a Senior Designer within our Product Development department, we will look to you to collaborate with our Product Development and Engineering teams to define and implement innovative solutions for the website (visuals and experience). - You will conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design roadblocks, and contribute to the establishment and promotion of style guidelines and standards for use throughout the site. - You will partner with Engineering in an effort to create a seamless experience for users and allow for some independence and speed for front-end engineers in releasing new code to the site. - The product web designer will apply user research and feedback to design work and engage in A/B testing in order to identify best practices. - Marketing will rely on you to contribute suggestions or ideas to improve branding and messaging and to assist our graphic designer in photography, video, print collateral, landing pages and emails, as needed.
Ideal Candidate
- Bachelors degree - 3 - 5 years working as a designer in a web environment as a full-time member of a team - Demonstrated proficiency with HTML and CSS. - Responsive Design, JQuery and Javascript a plus. - Landing page design also required - Deep knowledge of Adobe Suite, to include inDesign and Illustrator - Outstanding creative and graphic design skills with a strong understanding of typography and color - Exceptional skills as an effective communicator and the ability to communicate design processes, ideas and strategies across different audiences and all organizational levels. The selected candidate should be comfortable giving and receiving feedback - Highly developed collaborative skills, with an ability to bring established, repeatable and shareable design processes to the team while promoting collaboration between other designers and product teams. Experience in a cross-functional environment is strongly desired - Comfortable in a dynamic environment that often requires fast turnaround and adaptation to changing priorities and deadlines - A strong attention to detail - We will seek out those candidates who demonstrate kindness, curiosity and warmth, both in person and through experiences and situational examples
