Summary
The Sr. Protection & Control Engineer will have a strong background in state-of-the-art protective relaying systems for Transmission and Distribution Systems. You will be responsible for Protection and Control studies, protective relay settings and calculations, and coordination. You will oversee protection and controls as applied to designing high voltage substations for a variety of project types and clients in the utility substation sector.
Responsibilities
* Develop P&C application document to define P&C design scopes, philosophies, methodologies and criteria for high voltage substation projects. (includes green-field and brown-field). * Set relays and conduct relay setting calculations utilizing ASPEN, AcSELerator 5010 (SEL), and GE URPC Software * Design settings in appropriate format then issue to assigned field Protection and Controls Supervisor using IPS * Mark-up and review protection schematics and elementaries * Utilize MOB to review equipment and materials established by substation engineers for Protection Designers * Work with the following equipment: transformers, circuit breakers, buses, reactors, line disconnects, protective relays systems (SEL, ABB, etc.), and SCADA systems * Function as a project lead for protection and control projects * Perform all engineering and design activities with minimum direction * Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or those external to complete protection and control projects * Provide training and guidance to lower level employees
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum 6 - 8 years of proven experience directly involved in P&C system studies, relay setting, automation system design and field commissioning for HV substation projects for the electric utility industry * Excellent computer skills with MS Office; familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Microstation software to conduct P&C system study and relay setting/calculation/coordination * Familiarity NERC and NPCC protection and control standards. * Expertise in the engineering of protective relay and control systems, the calculation of relay settings, the creation of relay control logic, and the analysis of relay operations for transmission / distribution substations. * Experience in testing and/or commissioning of substation automation system electrical installations for utilities or industries * Excellent verbal and written communications skills; good presence with customers/clients in conveying technical knowledge; solid team skills in your relationships with team members and external business relationships * PE License or EIT certification is desirable but not required
Compensation and Working Conditions
Annual Pay $110,000 - $140,000
