Summary
Smiths Medical is seeking a Senior Program Manager for their location in Southington,Connecticut. The ideal candidate will bring 8-10 years of program management experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industries. As the programs are highly technical in nature, an engineering background with a focus on the design process and risk analysis is also ideal. Experience managing very broad, cross-functional project and teams is desired.
Responsibilities
* Undertake other tasks as requested by the Director of the PMO. * Provide clear and effective project reporting as directed by the Director of the PMO. * Manage relationships with external vendors and sub-contractors to best meet the needs of the project. * Provide leadership of the project and motivation for the project team. * Plan and track the commercial viability of the project against original objectives in terms of: project cost, product cost, changes in scope and forecast sales return. * Act on any issues which threaten achievement of agreed targets, escalating as necessary. * Develop proper documentation for the project and ensure that it is suitably filed and communicated to those requiring access to it. * Coach work-stream leaders within the project team to ensure that they carry out effective planning and management of their areas of responsibility. * Manage the personnel in the team, leveraging their strengths in order to maximize the team effectiveness. * Monitor project activities as required to ensure timely completion of project tasks. * Assess project risk and plan and carry out mitigation strategies * Plan the project timeline using best practice project management methodology and update as necessary. * Plan resource requirements; negotiate resource allocation with functional managers. To update resource plans as required as needs change and the project progresses. * Identify key stakeholders, understand their requirements and plan the project to deliver these requirements. * Receive a project brief (PAD) for review and then to form a cohesive project team. * Manage New Product Introduction and key Business projects and programs. * Engage others, promote, and participate in Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives, focusing on continuous improvement. * This position is required to assure compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations and standards, good business practices and company documented procedures (including knowledge of all standards, government occupational health and environmental regulations and statutes related to the site).
Ideal Candidate
* 2+ years of experience managing projects in a regulated industry such as medical devices or military/aerospace. * Bachelors of Science degree or equivalent * Sufficient technical knowledge of the products being developed to lead the project. * The confidence, ability and personality to lead others, often of equal or higher seniority. * Good IT skills. Particularly: Microsoft Project and Excel, and SharePoint. * Superior verbal and written communication skills. * Good numeracy and literacy * University Degree (BA degree) required
