Director of Service Engineering

Slack is looking for an experienced engineering director to lead our Service Engineering organization to deliver our service to our customers reliably and cost-effectively. This person will manage our Operations and Internal Tools teams.

* Ensure availability of the Slack service to customers around the globe as well as development, test, build, and deploy, data exploration, and visibility infrastructure to fellow engineers and coworkers * Define a vision for the future delivery of the Slack service that balances reliability, operator efficiency, and cost * Be accountable for a rotation of on-call operators and developers * Manage, mentor, and grow the careers of engineering managers and individual contributors * Hire a diverse and exceptional team * Set strategic goals in partnership with the rest of engineering and deliver results on schedule * Budget and forecast AWS, GCP, and other operational costs * Help define and implement Slack’s security and compliance program * Represent Slack at industry events and promoting the Slack Engineering brand

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience * History of engineering and operating highly-available web applications in the cloud * Experience managing a team of engineering managers * Exemplary written and verbal communication skills * Ability to handle complexity
