Summary
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Commissioning Engineer position. If you are looking for an opportunity to work with customers and travel to field sites, then this position is for you!
Responsibilities
* Deliver a high technical and professional level of service to our customers worldwide, with significant focus on safety and quality. * Perform commissioning and site acceptance testing of SEL solutions at remote customer sites. * Assist in planning and coordinating of commissioning team efforts. * Oversee, ensure quality, and provide onsite technical assistance to customers during the installation and commissioning, warranty, service, repair and maintenance of SEL power management systems. * Document and report malfunctions and identify/analyze any undesirable trends. * Train and assist customers with the installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems, both on-site and from SEL offices. * Work in a safe, healthful and environmentally sound manner, report accidents and unsafe conditions promptly, and perform ergonomic exercises to reduce likelihood of injuries. * Develop and maintain a high level of technical expertise in electric power system protection and/or automation. * Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of SEL equipment and solutions to electric power system protection and automation. * Provide regular communication to SEL and customer project management, engineering, and support groups regarding all commissioning activities and problems through regular, timely reports. * Continuously identify, measure and improve processes. * Other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
**Qualifications:** * Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, electronics or related field * Minimum of five years of field commissioning experience. * Demonstrated engineering experience in the commissioning and testing of automation and control systems. * Experience in fault finding, diagnosis, and troubleshooting of problems associated with control systems, instrumentation, and HMI/SCADA packages * Working knowledge of modern electrical test and measurement equipment * Knowledge of analog and digital electronics and microprocessors * Strong customer service, communications, and organizational skills * Ability to work non-standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions * Ability to travel globally up to 80% * Ability to work cooperatively in team, environment * Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills * Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities * Background check results satisfactory to SEL * Negative drug test result(s) **Preferred Qualifications:** * Experience using SEL products * Familiarity with the commissioning and testing of electric power substations, secondary systems, and protective relays
