Summary
Plans, organizes, directs and controls SRP’s Vegetation Management and Maintenance activities including, SRP Utility Foresters, and contracted resources for Contact Forestry and Vegetation Management. Directs Utility Foresters, Department Leads, contracted Contact Foresters and contracted General Foreman in scheduling work and assigning workload in response to distribution, transmission, and vegetation management regulatory requirements. Vegetation management encompasses line clearing and use of herbicides and other maintenance strategies to achieve departmental goals in an economically safe and environmentally sound manner. Reports to the Manager of Maintenance Services.
Responsibilities
- Plans, directs, controls and coordinates SRP Vegetation Management and maintenance activities. - Represents SRP on executive committees within Vegetation Management with internal and external organizations such as follows: SRP's Bulk Electric System (BES) issues; Intl Society of Arboriculture (ISA); Western Chapter ISA (WCISA); Utility Arborist Association (UAA); Arizona Community Tree Council (ACTC); and the North American Transmission Forum (NATF). - Interacts with NERC, WECC, the US Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and endangered species restrictions. - Interacts with SRP internal departments, contractors, contractor associations, other utilities, and customers to share industry best practices and to ensure quality and timely information and customer service. - Implements, supports and enforces all safety practices, rules, and regulations required to perform vegetation management work. - Coordinates with and supports SRP internal departments, including but not limited to Electric Reliability Committee (ERC); Distribution & Transmission Construction, Distribution & Transmission Maintenance, Distribution & Transmission Operations, Public Involvement, Litigation and Claims, Land, Survey, Consumer Affairs and Customer Service in support of Vegetation Management and Maintenance. This includes initiating work orders and coordinating Utility Forester activities. - Works with mapping, design and GIS to ensure accurate documentation of SRP facilities. - Monitors budgets, evaluates cost of service, implements and monitors contracts with other agencies and contracted resources. - Responds to claim investigations and customer inquiries; resolves and verifies issues regarding use of SRP assets, property, procedures, guidelines, and departmental practices with SRP contractors, customers and the public. - Participates in and presents at state-wide professional and educational forums with associations such as Intl Society of Arboriculture (ISA); Western Chapter ISA (WCISA); Utility Arborist Association (UAA); Arizona Community Tree Council (ACTC); and the North American Transmission Forum (NATF). - Performs evaluations of field conditions and provides quality control duties to verify all aspects of work done by SRP contractors; responsible for contractor performance and operational targets. - Prepares documentation and reports status of work assigned to contractor for progress, inspection status, quality control and material reconciliation; maintains confidentiality and discretion in dealing with information from outside contractors in a competitive environment.
Ideal Candidate
**Education** * Completion of a Bachelor's Degree that prepares the employee for the assignment. **Experience** * 7 years of job-related experience. **Additional Information** - Required experience in the electric utility industry, preferably in utility forestry or design and construction of electric distribution or transmission systems; experience as a Utility Forester, Engineer, Analyst, Distribution Design Consultant, or Supervisor. - Includes periodic travel to other SRP locations and some out-of-town travel. - Responsible for close coordination with other SRP internal departments to manage special corporate projects. - Required to manage highly-confidential customer and employee data with the utmost regard for confidentiality. - Responsible for supporting the management of an annual budget of approximately $6 million. - Must understand SRP design standards, policies and procedures. - Must understand the nature of the field work involved to assure safe work practices in the vegetation management and maintenance environment. - Ability to lead the department as a member of a team of similar organizations involved in the design, construction and maintenance of the electrical system.
